It was a quarter ’til ten.
It was quiet.
I had a headache.
My stomach had pained me all day.
I was given a week off work,
but I needed the money.
I listened to bluegrass and played my guitar.
Earlier in the day, I saw a woman I knew in the store.
But I couldn’t remember where
I knew her from, so we didn’t speak.
We smiled.
Then I remembered it was a restaurant.
We worked together.
I almost bought a shirt,
but I needed the money.
I set a date with an old friend.
All-day, I was thinking it has
to get better than this.
Now, it’s getting late.
I’ve got a little quiet…
and it only hurts when I get a little more.
